VideoWe appreciate that learning grammar is often a daunting task. With this in mind we not only provide all the written material covering all major aspects of Spanish grammar but we support it with full video and audio lessons.
Written lessons
There is no need to spend hours reading through written material if you don’t want to. Everything that is covered in our written lessons is also covered in full in our video and audio lessons. Let our professional online teachers guide you through the lessons at a pace which is dictated by you.

AudioEach grammar lesson is written both clearly and concisely in order to make your learning experience as seamless as possible. Hundreds of example sentences are spoken in both English and Spanish by our online teachers to illustrate each grammar point that is being taught. Not only does this make learning grammar easier but it gives the student constant exposure to the Spanish language as spoken by a native speaker.
What the lessons include

To further support our written, video and audio lessons we provide a variety of quizzes that test your understanding of the material that is taught in each of the lessons.

Take a look at the ‘about the quizzes’ page to learn more about these.
The useful phrases section of this website are free for everyone to view but they are best used in conjunction with the grammar lessons. Without knowing any Spanish grammar you will not be able to appreciate why certain phrases or sentences are formed in the way that they are. As you learn more grammar you can use the useful phrases section of this website to help you make similar sentences. You can also do this by learning and using the vocabulary in the ‘word lists’ section of the website.
All about grammar
Grammar forms the foundation of a language and serves to tell us how the various parts of a language should be constructed in accordance with set rules.
Grammar is probably the most important part of any language. Without it language would simply be a jumble of random words and much more difficult to learn. Grammar tells us whether the words we use and the sentences that we form are the correct way to communicate what we want to say.

By following these set of rules everybody who knows them can understand what is being said. If the rules are not followed it may be more difficult to communicate exactly what we want or even worse we may make no sense to anyone else but ourselves.

Spanish grammar is particularly important because it gives us the rules which tell us which words or word formations we should use when we are speaking to different types of people. For example all Spanish verbs are used and formed differently depending on whether we are using them to refer to someone that we want to be respectful to or to someone who we are more familiar with. These rules do not exist in English.
The existence of grammar enables us to anticipate how words and sentences should be formed by following a set of grammatical guidelines. For example in Spanish it is possible to form sentences in the past, present and future simply by understanding how verbs are formed in accordance with certain rules. It may only be necessary to learn how one verb is formed in any particular tense. This knowledge can then be applied to a whole range of other verbs that follow the same rules.

Learning Spanish grammar is especially important for those people who speak another language which is constructed in a very different way. Several European languages are similar to Spanish in respect of the way verbs are formed and how sentences are constructed according to gender. The English language however is very different. Verbs are formed very differently and gender is of little consideration. Learning Spanish grammar is important because trying to apply grammatical rules from another language will more than likely fail (especially from English).
Knowing every single Spanish word that exists would be phenomenal but without knowing how to arrange them correctly to form sentences they wouldn’t be of much use. Grammar tells us how certain words should be used together so that they make sense.
Is grammar really necessary?
Intelligent learningSome people say that learning Spanish grammar is not necessary at all! For example a child learns to speak a language without ever needing to know anything about grammar. They simply learn the words and remember in what different types of situations they should be spoken. A child learns to speak in this way and automatically learns the rules that apply to that language (grammar).

This method of learning works perfectly for a child but as an adult it doesn’t work as well. As adults our minds are less accepting of new ideas and concepts. Adults tend to question things whereas children except and absorb information like sponges.

Sometimes people choose to learn a language simply by remembering words and phrases in the same way that children do. Perhaps they do this to be able to communicate a little whilst on holiday in a different country or on a business trip. If however you are serious about learning the Spanish language at some point it is inevitable that learning Spanish grammar will not only become a necessity but will be something that you will want to do.
