Stress - accent marks (tildes)
Accent marks are used in Spanish to show that a particular letter in a word should be pronounced harder or louder than the other letters. This is particularly important when two words are spelt the same. In these case one usually takes an accent mark.
Accent marks are always used with vowels.
Following ortagrphic rules.

The penultimate syllable is stressed in words that end in either n, s or a vowel. |

|
The last syllable is stressed in words that end in a consonant other than n or s. |
|
|
When rules one and two above don't apply an accent mark is placed above the vowel in the stressed syllable. |

If the letter 'e' has an accent mark (é), then it is always pronounced as a separate letter even if it appears next to another vowel.
